SGMA Leads Sports Industry Delegation to Capitol Hill
Washington, DC – March 10, 2010 – To reverse that negative trend, a delegation of physical activity proponents met today with members of the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. to talk about what can be done to ‘Get America Moving.’  To make the point, three former Heisman Trophy winners; three Olympic gold medalists; a former National League MVP; an LPGA Hall of Famer; and a host of other current and former star athletes joined the advocacy effort.  The setting was the 11th Annual National Health Through Fitness Day, organized by the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA). Read More

SGMA's Annual Sports Participation Study to Examine Fandom
Jupiter, FL – March 1, 2010 – For the first time in the 10-year history of SGMA’s Annual Sports & Fitness Participation Study, there will be new questions added to look at ‘fandom’ for the many sports and related activities that affect sports participation habits. In order to accurately reflect this data, the SGMA has opted to be consistent with the other consumer studies that ask a ‘fandom’ question as part of its annual measurements. As part of this inaugural effort, the study will examine ‘fandom’ for 20 different sports and activities. SGMA's National Health Through Fitness Day Has Celebrity Appeal
Silver Spring, MD – February 16, 2010 – Since the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association’s first National Health Through Fitness Day in 2000, well known figures in sports and fitness have attended this event every year to lend a hand to SGMA’s public policy efforts.  Some of the great names that have attended this event in the past include NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, tennis legend Billie Jean King, current NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, former heavyweight boxing champ Larry Holmes, and soccer great Mia Hamm. This year is no different as nearly 20 well known figures from the sports world have confirmed their attendance for SGMA’s 11th Annual National Health Through Fitness Day  in our nation’s capital.  Three of those celebrities are ‘household’ names in the world of sports -- 1982 Heisman Trophy winner/former U.S. Olympic athlete Herschel Walker (Franklin Sports), 1987 Heisman Trophy winner/retired NFL All-Pro wide receiver Tim Brown, and LPGA Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sörenstam (The Annika Foundation/Callaway Golf). Read More
