The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) is organizing a day of advocacy on Wednesday, March 4. It's called National Health Through Fitness Day where more than 100 people (nearly 20 of whom are celebrities in sports, including 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker, 1972 U.S. Open tennis champ Stan Smith, and 1989 World Series MVP Dave Stewart) will be meeting with members of Congress to promote two initiatives that will help Americans (of all ages) adopt more physically active and healthy lifestyles. (1) Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) Bill, which provides grants to school districts to support innovative physical education methods; (2) Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, to encourage improved health through increased physical activity for all Americans by making activities more affordable -- through the use of tax incentives. |
