SGMA to present Tim Brown with SGMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award

SGMA to present Sen. Harkin, Rep. Wamp, and Rep. Kind with Congressional Health & Fitness Awards

Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 6:30 p.m……These Awards will be presented by ESPN personality Bonnie Bernstein, who will MC the event.

WHY:
Brown is being honored “in recognition of his lifelong commitment to promoting physical education and active lifestyles in America.”

Harkin, Wamp, and Kind are being honored “for their promotion of healthy and active lifestyles in America.”

The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association is organizing a day of advocacy on Wednesday, March 10 -- National Health Through Fitness Day. where more than 100 people (roughly 15 of whom are celebrities in sports, including Brown, former football great Herschel Walker, and LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam) will meet with members of Congress to ask for support for two initiatives that will help Americans (of all ages) adopt more physically active and healthy lifestyles.

(1) Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP), which provides grants to school districts to support innovative physical education methods.  

(2) Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, to encourage improved health through increased physical activity for all Americans by making activities more affordable through the use of tax incentives.
