Tennis Great Stan Smith To Receive SGMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award

WHAT: SGMA to present Stan Smith with SGMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award
SGMA to present Sen. Warner, Rep. Bono-Mack, and Rep. Crowley with Congressional Health & Fitness Awards

WHY: Stan Smith is being honored “in recognition of his lifelong commitment to promoting physical education and active lifestyles in America.”
Warner, Bono-Mack, and Crowley are being honored “for their promotion of healthy and active lifestyles in America.”
The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association is organizing a day of advocacy on Wednesday, March 2 -- National Health Through Fitness Day -- where more than 100 people (21 of whom are celebrities in sports, including Smith, former football great Herschel Walker, Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith and LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam) will meet with members of Congress to ask for support for two initiatives that will help Americans (of all ages) adopt more physically active and healthy lifestyles.
(1) Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP), which provides grants to school districts to support innovative physical education methods:
(2) Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, to encourage improved health through increased physical activity for all Americans by making activities more affordable through the use of tax incentives.
