 Sports Licensing White Paper 1999

The U.S. sports licensed products industry is strong, but stagnant, after a decade of steady growth throughout the 1980s and slower growth throughout the mid-1990s. According to The Licensing Letter, retail sales of all licensed products were $71.15 billion in 1998 — a 2.8% decrease from 1997. Since 1994, the total market has increased less than 2%. The Licensing Letter has reported that sales of sports licensed products totaled $12.6 billion in 1998 — an 8% decrease from the $13.65 billion in 1997. This report offers the reader an excellent insight into the sports licensing business at both professional and university levels. 1999 Edition (PDF - 15 pages)
